<\/figure>Vojt\u011bch Spurn\u00fd is a prominent Czech conductor, piano and harpsichord player and music instructor. His conducting career has seen him collaborate with the prestigious opera scenes and orchestras; he also actively performs on early keyboard instruments. At present, he is a chief conductor of the Silesian Theater in Opava and a permanent guest conductor of the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
Vojt\u011bch Spurn\u00fd (born 1964) is a prominent Czech conductor, piano and harpsichord player and pedagogue. He studied piano and flute at the Prague Conservatoire and conducting, opera directing and harpsichord at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. At the Hoogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, the Netherlands, he later studied early music interpretation along with harpsichord and graduated with a “Uitvoerend musicus” degree. He further expanded his education by attending master classes led by J. Sonnleitner, H. Rilling, K. Gilbert etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his opera-conducting career, Spurn\u00fd worked at The Drottingholm Palace Theatre in Stockholm, J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, G\u00f6teborg Opera, Oslo Opera House, Staatstheater Hannover, Prague Chamber Opera, as well as The National Theatre and The State Opera in Prague. He was a permanent conductor (1999-2004) and artistic director (2002-2003) of The State Opera in Prague and a chief conductor of the Bohuslav Martin\u016f Philharmonic Orchestra (2015-2018). At present, he is a chief conductor of the Silesian Theater in Opava and a permanent guest conductor of the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Spurn\u00fd’s conducting career has seen him collaborate with the Czech Chamber Philharmonic, Ensemble 18+, Hradec Kr\u00e1lov\u00e9 Philharmonic Orchestra, South Czech Philharmonic, Prague Symphonic Chamber Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphonic Orchestra, Prague Symphonic Orchestra, PKF \u2013 Prague Philharmonia, Chursaechsische Kammerphilharmonie, Prague Chamber Orchestra, North Czech Philharmonic, Haas Ensemble, Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice, Suk Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Soloists of Brno, Jan\u00e1\u010dek Philharmonic Orchestra, Bohuslav Martin\u016f Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as with world class soloists, including S. Brill, P. Bernold, V. Hude\u010dek, M. Hundeling, S. Kam, \u0160. Margita, M. Maisky or D. Peckov\u00e1 among many others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made appearance at several significant music festivals, such as the International Music Festival \u010cesk\u00fd Krumlov, Jan\u00e1\u010dek May International Music Festival, Festival Jan\u00e1\u010dek and Luha\u010dovice, The Prague Spring International Music Festival, Smetana’s Litomy\u0161l International Opera Festival, Feste Teatrale Valtice, The Smetana Days Festival, Harmonia Moraviae, Wiener Festwochen, Carinthischer Sommer etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apart from his busy conducting career, Vojt\u011bch Spurn\u00fd actively performs on early keyboard instruments as well as the quarter-tone piano. He recorded a comprehensive compilation consisting of works for harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano for the Czech Radio. One of his recordings, entitled Masters of Czech Baroque and Classicism (released on BMG Czech Republic), was nominated for the Harmonie magazine award in 2003, whereas his recordings of Czech classicist symphonies (released on Alto Records) have earned critical praise. He participated (as conductor) in the filming of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera buffa Dove \u00e8 amore \u00e8 geliosa, shot at the Castle Theater in \u010cesk\u00fd Krumlov. The DVD release of thereof won the prestigious Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik international award as well as the 2013 DVD Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vojt\u011bch Spurn\u00fd has been, in addition to his artistic career, involved in editorial work. For the Czech Radio, he edited the critical edition of works of V. J. Tom\u00e1\u0161ek and F. X. Du\u0161ek; he also took part in the release of the critical edition of J. J. Ryba’s Czech Christmas Mass and Stabat Mater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
